Ukrainian Gems on Loan for the Summer

I've been sitting at this keyboard for a while, wondering how to write about this wonderful opportunity we have been given for the summer.

There is an orphanage in Ukraine that has been given the privilege of allowing adoptable orphans to come to America and visit whoever will have them. There are no guarantees of adoption. They have to go home at the end of summer. We have known of people who have successfully adopted children they have hosted and people who were given lame excuses by the government and refused to allow the Americans to adopt the kids they have hosted. So what is the advantage for us? Nothing other than allowing two sisters who have no family the opportunity to be loved for ten short weeks. Yes, we will pray like the dickens that the Lord will bless us but if not, that's okay too. The experience will be remembered for the rest of our lives.

Tanya (age 13) and her sister Liza (age 8) will be arriving at DIA on Tuesday, June 10. Time as yet, unknown.
Learning Russian like crazy.
Expect photos of wildly happy people.

Okay, let me see if I get this...you have two kids, grown or just about there. You long to travel the teen path again!! Wow, your kids must either be just about perfect or if you're like me, there's a bit of amnesia going on that dulls the pain over the years. I think it's absolutely awesome that plan on adopting. Our kids are 29, 12 and 11. The 12 year old is a daughter, adopted through an open domestic adoption at birth. The 11 year old is from Ukraine. The only boy. Would have been an only child had he come first;-) If you want the good, bad and the ugly perspective as your adoption 101, my email is jerigrothues@yahoo.com

Please do not take this wrong but this is super important as it does have affect on ALL hosting programs and adoptions from Ukraine...

Please do not post pics or info (names) of children coming over for hosting. Under Ukrainian law this is illegal and due to families doing this in the past, hostings have so many times came close to being shut down. I hope you will understnd how sensative of a situation this is, just think of it as your neighbors kids, it's not really your "right" to post Ukraine's kid, know what I mean?

Also, the fact that your host progam is calling these kids "adoptable" is a BIG red flag. Please feel free to email (in my profile) and I would be happy to share what we have learned and put you in contact with MANY families that wanted to believe such things, that were left with heartbreak. Again, this is not legal for your host program to say such things.

I hate to sound like such a downer but just hoping to educate others in order to help you and protect the children of Ukraine.

Wishing you well!
